Graphic novel all done! ...almost

Image
I have completed pencil work on "Weekend Visit" it is 46 pages and was a big learning experience. Here are a few of my favorite panels of the first 22 pages that have been scanned. Next stop Photoshop land for some clean up and grey tones!

New cover's and Previews of Comics!

Image
I recently updated my comics available on my lulu.com page, with some new covers. I basically added a "MC comics" logo and some other info. Also I have officially added previews of each comic on the Lulu page. Below are the covers enjoy! "Umberto" "Monkey Begun #3 color edition" "Monkey Begun"

new header

In anticipation of putting the final touches on my current project, and because I fixed my scanner finally, I have decided to change my blog header to reflect my current style and ability. Also that was the best excuse to write a run on sentence. "Weekend Visit" coming soon!

Work station/ Old stuff part 3

Here are some photo's of my drawing desk/computer desk area where I do all my work. My little corner of the world. Above is a picture of some good advice from my son in form of a color book page. Retractable drawing desk (bought for $100), old school oak desk my father owned and passed to me in my teen years. And just for fun here is a painting project that somehow was to be a comic book or cohesive pages of art? (you figure it out!) It's a precursor to another series of paintings but here are the original drawings and I'll be sure to post the paintings soon.

CQ inspired art

Image
CQ a great film I love the film CQ by Roman Coppola , I have seen it so many times I drew some panels long ago back in 2003. I love the main character Paul Kemp, he easily translated to a comic character with his trademark hairdo. There used to be a great site up called experiencecq.com which actually features a really cool comic book. Here are a few bad photos of the old panels I will post them all and update as soon as I can. (I promise to actually scan all these someday, when I buy a new scanner of I'm mine decides to work)

Old unfinished comic books part 2

Here is an old project that was the very first time I worked with a serious writer. Unfortunately it never got made but got this far. Years later I for better or worse inked it. I still prefer to work in pencil and my current project will be done only in pencil/photoshop. His name is Ron and he is relentless (inside joke). Just dug up more, one of them is a first version of another panel above.

Sam Kieth addressed me in his blog! (file under "fan-boy")

Image
One of the main reasons I make graphic novels is the artist/stylist Sam Kieth, specifically a character he created called "Dude Japan". Recently I have been hounding him on his blog with my random comments. check his blog at (click below) Trout-a-verse

New graphic novel coming soon! sneak peek

Image
Above is an old sketch I did while preparing my 46 page graphic novel one shot. I wont go into too much detail for now. Below is one of the final panels I'm particulary proud of. It features the San Francisco neighborhood of "the Mission". I'm sure since I don't actually live there I said that wrong hehee.

Older paintings new folder...

Image
I recently was looking at my photobucket account and realized most of the art I thought was online is not actually there. Meaning I have a lot more art then I have been showing. This Picasa album should do the trick. It includes comic books, illustrations, sketches, paintings, donations, and photoshop work. enjoy CLICK HERE EXAMPLES OF OLDER ARTWORK for more Artwork click here (old folder)

Old unfinished comic books part 1

Image
I have recently been reading this amazing blog http://samkieth.blogspot.com/ and Mr.Kieth has inspired me to add some of my older unfinished/un-published (or un-publishable) work. The first is a project I attempted with an old acquaintance who was in no way an experienced writer, nor did he even consider himself one. Eager to work on a project I convinced my neighbor to write me story. I will spare you the rambling of the story and let the visuals speak for themselves. The main character was something taken from one of my series of paintings that I had made after "quitting painting" for over 10 years. Here is an example of the painting series that inspired the comics main character: The comic, I don't think had a title, but did have an amazing cover which im not sure where it is but will eventually post it on the blog. (just found it here is the cover!) click to enlarge enjoy!
